Hello! I'm El!
I'm 23, Native American (Cherokee/Choctaw), genderfluid (Androgyne/Female/Male), and bi. I go by she/her or they/them!
I used to go by Rachael D.J. and Leopard Gal so if you see either of those, it's probably an old account of mine!
2020 was bad, both my Grandma and my cockatiel died within a week of each other and I had to move in with some friends because my mother's boyfriend was getting physically violent.
I'm starting to get back on my feet now, but I definitly didn't get eveything done this year that I wanted to. That said, I'm in a safe place now with people who care about me, so it was really all for the best.
Q- Tell me more about your two characters on the front page!
A- They're my Pokésona, Runa El Blue and my Fire Emblem sona, Kiran Eclat Cipher. They're self inserts, nothing too ground breaking. Runa also has a Mystery Dungeon design that's a Quilava and Galarian Linoone crossbreed! Her partner is Aaron the Lucario, who is cross-bred with a Blaziken.
Q- If Kiran and Runa are sonas, why is their skin tone so much darker than yours?
A- In-Universe answer: It's a tan!
Out-of-Universe answer: Runa's skin has always been color picked from the "middle" tone in Pokémon. That got much, much darker between X & Y and Sun & Moon. I thought the SM skin tone went better with her color scheme overall, so I kept it. (Also, this pretty much matches my IRL skin tone when I have a tan. I'm just never outside so I look like a vampire 98% of the time lol)
Their untanned skin tone is color picked from the Summoner's artwork in FEH!
Q- Why do Runa and Kiran have such different hairstyles?
A- Well, about every two years I donate my hair. My hair goes from long to short to long, so I've had both of those hair styles!
Q- Do you have a Facebook account?
A- Yes, but it's not going to be linked here. It has my full name on it, where I went to high school, family member's names, pictures of my face, ect. It's only for peole I know in real life.
(Also, I haven't really used it since 2016...)
Q- Do you have any pets?
A- Yes! I have a Cockatiel named Petey that I got in 2008, and a bunch of rescue cats that I got between 2010 and 2019. I'm trying to find homes for most of the newer ones, though! My Mom also owns a bunch of ducks and chickens that are named pets but I don't take care of myself.
I also had a doggo until early 2019, when he passed away at age 16...
He was a good boy.
Q- What are your hobbies?
A- Video games, mostly! I also love reading, but when I pick up a book I can't put it down or even sleep until it's finished so I try not to do that unless I have a full day to kill. My record is an 800 page novel (small print) in 20 hours! I also love learning anything and everything about animals and mythology- I have so much useless trivia in my brain lol
Q- What are your favorite video games?
A- My top 15 would have to be:
15- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
14- Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness
13- Pokémon Colosseum
12- Hyrule Warriors
11- Fire Emblem Warriors
10- Fire Emblem Heroes
9- Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core
8- Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
7- Pokémon Black
6- Fire Emblem Awakening
5- The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
4- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
3- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2- Fire Emblem Three Houses
1- Xenoblade Chronicles X
Q- What are some of your favorite animals? Are there any you don't like?
A- There's a lot of favorites... I guess I'll go by species:
Birds: Corvids, Raptors (esp Great Horned Owls) and Parrots (esp Cockatoos and Cockatiels!!!)
Wild Dogs: Coyotes, Jackals, and Wolves
Domestic Dog Breeds: Big Shih-Tzus, Huskies, Labradors, Retro Pugs
Wild Cats: Black Leopards, Clouded Leopards, Snow Leopards, White Tigers
Domestic Cat Breeds: Turkish Van/Angoras, Tuxedo Cats, Black Cats, Calicos (esp Lavender Calicos), and Gray Tabbies
Ungulates: Quarter Horses, Clydesdales, Oryxs and Okapi
Rodents: Momongas, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas (I'm horribly allergic to all rodents tho :') )
Weasels: European Badgers, Honey Badgers, Ferrets
Bats: Vampire Bats, Egyptian Fruit Bats
Fish: Coelacanths, Mudskippers, and Whale Sharks
Bugs: Lunar Moths, Fall Webworm Moths, Monarch Butterflies, Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies, and Orb Weaver Spiders
Reptiles: Chameleons, Painted Turtles, Horned Lizards, Bearded Dragons, Galapagos Tortoises, Komodo Dragons
Whales: Orcas and Bottlenose Dolphins
Dinosaurs: Carnotaurus, Plesiosaurs
As for some animals I don't like...
Terrier dogs (Not like, in general. I've had two and they're really high energy I just don't want to ever own another one.)
Normal Pugs & other over-bred dog breeds
Rabbits (Again, just as a pet for me. They're fine otherwise. I had a Holland Lop that died of cancer when I was a kid...)
Ticks, fleas, mosquitos, gnats, flies
Worms (Earthworms are ok... in the ground. Away from me.)
Brown Recluse Spiders
Stargaser fish, Angler fish, Eels (Scary! Scary!)
Q- How about favorite Pokémon?
A- My top 10 are:
Q- Are there any character designs you just love? All-time favorites?
A- Absolutely! In no particular order, they are:
Neytiri (Avatar 2009)
Azura/Performance Azura (FE)
TF Elma (XCX)
Lucretia (Dragalia Lost)
Kisara/Blue Eyes (YGO)
Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra (BLEACH)
Resurrección Grimmjow (BLEACH)
The Freeze (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Shadow Lugia (Pokémon)

A- I've got a few of those too~
The Chimera (XCX)
Blue Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon (YGO)
Calne Ca (Vocaloid)
Calamity Ganon (LoZ)
Q- What fanwork have you done that you're the most proud of?
A- Definitely my Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfics, Smile and The Unending Game trilogy. In terms of my artwork, as of April 2020 it's my Chimera/Lao from November 2018, my redesign of Jump Force Kaiba from June 2019, and Priest Seto from May 2020!
Q- You mentioned wanting to open commissions in the summer of 2019, what happened?
A- God nerfed me lol
Ok, so I've not made it a secret that I'm physically disabled. One of the big reasons for that (not the only one, but I'm not putting my full medical history on here) is because I have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. The good news, I have one one of the less dangerous types so I'm not gonna like... die. The bad news, as of 2019 at the ripe old age of 22, I developed arthritis in my right thumb and wrist. I've only managed to finish one or two pictures a month since then because of the pain, and I have to rest my hand for a long time afterwards. It doesn't make typing very fun either...
I was hoping to go to college and go in a professional direction with either my artwork, writing, or both, so for right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with my future...
Currently, I'm working on getting disability.
Q- What is the "Navarre Collection?"
A- I set out in 2018 to collect every single piece of official merchandise in the world featuring Navarre from Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. See, I'm not like "other" elitist pre-Awakening FE fans. I started playing Fire Emblem in 2009, got a massive crush on a character that only spoke in one chapter, and have maintained a constant level of thirst for over a decade.
"It'll be fine," I thought.
"He's a minor character from one of the least liked FE games. How much official merchandise could there be?"
Well, turns out he's popular in Japan. :P
(He's also Daddy Sakurai's favorite FE character!)
I'm over $300 in and having regrets but I've gone way too far to turn back now!!!
The collection on Google Drive is where I store my scans! I have pictures from artbooks that can't be found anywhere else on the web- I even have a little-known full manga chapter starring Navarre!
I also have a Library section with transcriptions of almost every line he's ever said, stat sheets from his appearances in the main games, spinoffs and FE Cipher, a raw and subbed recording of the second episode of the anime, a fully-voiced recording of the BSFE chapter he featured in, sprite sheets, ripped models, voice lines in both English and Japanese, and more!
Am I insane? Obsessed? Thirsty as hell? Probably all of the above!
Some dragons hoard shiny things. I hoard artist's programs.
Free Art Programs!
Gimp, the free alternative to Photoshop. Great for photography, less great for drawing.
Firealpaca, free alternative to SAI. Back in ye olde days before I got SAI I never liked it as much but it has updated since then and I’ve heard good things. It also does animations! SAI does not! Neat!
Autodesk Sketchbook- never used this one myself, but it’s free so why not! I’ve heard pretty good things about this one too.
Krita has a bit of an issue running on older computers, unfortunately. I’ve not had any problems myself, but the layout is quite a bit different from what I’m used to.
Medibang Paint Pro- Highly recommend this one! It does lots of neat comic book effects that other programs do not.
MyPaint- never used this one myself, but it’s a simple drawing program with brushes that feel different than traditional drawing software and a less cluttered interface.
Paint.net- never used this one either, tbh. I’ve heard a couple of people recommend this one.
Adobe Creative Suite 2. No flash, but if you want Photoshop? You got Photoshop.
Paid Drawing Programs
Paint Tool SAI- it was my go-to program for many years. It costs $50 one time. The creator is currently working on SAI 2 and buying a license for SAI grants you a free upgrade and access to the beta! Highly recommend it!
Artrage… it’s a bit weird. It doesn’t work at all like a computer drawing program. It’s more like a traditional drawing simulator. You can make digital art that basically looks 98% traditional, or do like I do and just do your shading and possibly backgrounds for a cool painted look. Very highly recommend, but it’s a bit pricey ($39) and be warned that if you’re used to other drawing programs it will take some getting used to.
Clip Studio Paint (formerly Manga Studio) is far and away the best art program I've ever used. I tried out the free trial in November of 2018 and I've never used another drawing program since. It has a normal version and a more expensive pro version- both are fairly expensive but it goes on sale for half price around the same time every year and is worth every penny.
More cool free stuff!
Designdoll, my new best friend. Make completely custom poseable dolls, and get anatomy, hand, pose, and lighting references in one go! It even has a foreshortening slider and a background grid! 10/10 would absolutely recommend
Blender! I’ve heard this is a very good, free 3d modeling software. I’m a dumbass that can’t figure out the interface but I’m going in completely blind so that’s to be expected
Opentoonz- I think this was developed by some people at studio ghibli? Again, I’m not great at using it myself but I animate very little.
Miku Miku Dance, for all your 3D dancing needs
Sketchup 3D, great for planning backgrounds! Especially if you know how to use it well. I do not.
Live2d, THE GOOD SHIT. The exact same program used to make the Fire Emblem Amie models in Fates! Also the only animation program I’ve ever been able to figure out! I love it! (Also, Brian_Tsui is a godsend and makes great tutorials on youtube.)
Real World Cursor Editor- the site looks like an artifact from the stone age but the program still runs fine on Windows 10. A super easy to use tool for making cursors, including animated ones!
Various Online Resources
Calligraphr- A tool for making custom fonts.
Paletton- A cheat sheet for people who get utterly confused over color theory. Like me.
Paints Chainer- A fun little tool for having an AI color in your lineart. Not professional by any means, but neat!
Waifu2x can up to double the size of an image without losing quality!
20,000 Names- Right what it says on the tin. A must-have when you have upwards of 80 OCs..!
-W3schools- A giant site of coding tutorials!
World Anvil- A neat world making site that can be used for stories or tabletop RPGs!
Toyhou.se- An awesome character storage site… but it’s in closed beta right now. Invite codes aren’t too terribly heard to track down, though.
